Pay by Link

Pay by Link allows you to create and manage payment links for checkout.

These links can be shared with customers to collect payments for specific goods or services. Each link opens a hosted checkout page for the customer.

The Pay by Link page shows all created payment links and is the starting point for creating new ones.

Pay by Link flow

A payment link follows this flow:

  1. Create a link from the Pay by Link page
  2. Enter the required details
  3. Create the link
  4. Share the link with the customer
  5. The customer completes the payment through the checkout page
  6. The link status updates based on usage and expiry

Link fields

When creating a payment link, you define the following fields:

Unit

The payment link is created for the unit currently selected in the merchant hierarchy.
All payments made through the link are assigned to this unit.

Reference

It is also included in the payment link URL.

Amount and currency

Defines how much the customer will pay and in which currency.

The selected currency determines the available payment methods.

Payment methods

Available methods change automatically based on the currency.

Capture payment automatically

If selected, the payment is captured immediately after checkout.
If not selected, the payment is only authorised and must be captured later.

Available languages:

  • English (UK)
  • German (DE)

Successful payments

After the expiry date, the link can no longer be used.

Title

Use this to describe what the customer is paying for.

Description

Optional text shown to the customer during checkout.
Use this to provide additional details about the product or service.

Link behaviour

A payment link can be used more than once, depending on how it is configured.

  • Each completed payment reduces the remaining number of uses
  • The link status updates as payments are completed

In progress
The link is active and has been used at least once, but still has remaining uses

Completed
The link has reached the maximum number of successful payments and can no longer be used

Capture behaviour

When creating a payment link, you can choose how the payment is processed:

  • Capture automatically selected
The payment is captured immediately after the customer completes the checkout
  • Capture automatically not selected
The payment is only authorised during checkout
You must capture it later from the transaction details page

If a payment is not captured, it remains in Authorised status until you take action.
